ICL works with nonprofit boards, their staff leadership and potential board members to improve governance and organizational effectiveness.
ICL’s Board Matching program has a long history of matching trained board candidates to nonprofit board governance positions and to date, has matched candidates to more than 70 nonprofits throughout Maine. Through our Emerging Leaders Program, ICL will match trained young emerging leaders to nonprofit boards and committees. Individuals are connected with a nonprofit board by matching the candidate’s passion and skills with the governing needs of a specific organization.
ICL’s Consulting Services are also a resource to nonprofit boards offering clients an array of consulting services with skilled consultants to help you with training and development, coaching and mentoring, facilitation and diversity strategy. As part of its consulting services, ICL conducts on-site consultative workshops for individual nonprofit boards or groups of representatives from a group of nonprofits boards on various board governance topics. These customized workshops provide practical skills and techniques that improve the effectiveness of nonprofit boards and the people who serve on them. Past workshops have included: The Core Responsibilities of Nonprofit Boards; Financial Fundamentals: Bean Counting Made Easy; Organizational Self-Assessment: How to Do It Well; and Legal Issues: What Every Board Members Needs to Know.
The benefits for nonprofits that participate in these programs include:
- Trained, new talent for the boardroom
- More effective governance, which helps them to accomplish their mission
- Improved board skill and accountability
- Connections with ongoing resources on board governance issues and concerns
